John Southworth is one of Canada’s most distinctive and iconoclastic music artists, respected for forging ahead with his own unique brand of music-making, while garnering high praise for his inimitable contribution – from both critics and contemporaries alike. His new record, ‘Human Cry’ will be released on Toronto's Barnyard Records . Recorded with The South Seas (Andrew Downing –bass, Justin Haynes –guitar, Jean Martin –drums), Human Cry's supremely crafted, elegiac songs offer rare and intimate illuminations, artfully performed with seasoned precision and grace.

John’s previous albums include 2009’’s feverish, outside pop record “Mama Tevatron” (Michael Barclay of “Radiofreecanukistan” proclaimed it “a strange hybrid of Esquivel, the Ramones and Dirty Mind-era Prince—that has to be heard to be believed"), the surreal balladry of “The Pillowmaker” (also w/ The South Seas), which garnered cover versions by Canadian artists Sarah Slean, Veda Hille and Kim Barlow, and his signature orchestral debut, “Mars Pennsylvania”, hailed by Exclaim Magazine as “the most original debut by a Canadian artist since Mary Margaret O’Hara’s ‘Miss America’”.

Recently John has contributed a song (‘Bcc’) for Buck 65's latest record, as well for recent Hawksley Workman and Jully Black records. He continues his rave-winning collaboration with Toronto’s ‘Art of Time Ensemble’, appearing in the past three ‘Source & Inspiration” concerts.
